Sometimes I have a weakness common to many poker players. Everything goes well, it run good, and I begin to take me for a star, a super strong guy who manages to table too and dominates his subject. And then reality caught up with me with suddenness and violence. I'm a donk.
During the Great Winamax Tournament on the weekend, this fact I was reminded vividly. After a tedious first day, I stabilized at 19k and tries to get back on track at the day2. I then rush a monumental and very lucky that propels me to over 170k at the highest point of the evening ... Before making any hand played on an impermissible for a so-called "professional".
From big blind, I T8o and a stack of over 130k. Everyone goes to a pretty solid player who covers me with little in the small blind limped for the 5th consecutive time the small blind. I raise to 10k, he limp / reraise to 27k, I'm all in for 130k and more and I snap-call with TT. No miracle and I go out in 60 places, paid but unhappy.
Unacceptable to me, who had vowed to remove these moves to my repertoire. Already, about fourteen months ago, when a big live tournament at Euro 3000, I screwed up a big chip lead on a bluff in a spot totally despicable, almost drawing dead. I vowed to never again ... But my old demons caught up with me. Is it an ego problem so typical fights blind? Yes, and nothing else! I tend to play those spots too aggressive, motivated by irrational fear of me "outplay", while the fold is so safer, so much better strategically, so the best poker! This tendency to "explode" is one of my worst "leak" so far ... But I will not let him ruin my hopes on the circuit! I'm a donk, admittedly, but a donk conscious of being one who learns from his blunders, and that's not bad. And also sponsored. It's cheaper. :-)
Speaking of sponsors, congratulations to another donk, namely my pal Richard Otto, who qualified to cast a Poker site competitor (Ev ***** ** for Pok not to name). Great news, because we will finally be able Donker all around the world! First step in EFA Monaco in two weeks.
DONK GO!
